They asked us why we were standing in the middle of their neighbors field and I hid my camera behind my back. "We just love the beauty....." Pearl muttered. I think I laughed out loud.
Obviously, they were failing to understand our adventure language. So we told them we'd leave. But only if they wanted us to...
The land wasn't theirs and they didn't seem to mind that we were there. "Naw, it's okay... We were just checkin' you weren't buryin' no dead bodies out here. " I looked at Pearl and breathed for the first time since I realized we'd been trespassing. "Noooo..." we both said in childish unison.
They trailed off and we wiped the sweat off our faces as we watched them disappear behind the trees. As soon as they were out of sight, we took the scissors out of our back pockets and snipped like our lives depended on it.
If you look past our horrible habits of picking flowers off the side of highways and getting stuck under other people's fences and maybe my unequally lengthed shorts - you'll see that we're actually quite normal. Just ignore the fact that Pearl keeps a pair of scissors in her car for flower-picking-purposes.
If there was a nice way to ask the entire world to empty itself out so we could enjoy the beauty of everyone's private property and steal their flowers - we would. Unfortunately, no one speaks our adventure language.
All I have left to say is if you ever want some (most likely illegal) freshly picked wildflowers, let us know. I'm not joking. As long as you supply the vase. I'm serious with every ounce of my being. And every ounce of yours. I don't even know if I can do that.
That's how serious this matter is to me.
Oh, and if you ever see two teenage girls wondering about your wildflower-inhabited-anything ... Feel free to tell us to leave, we won't take it the wrong way. We'll wait til you're out of sight to take the scissors from our back pockets and leave our mark (and then take it and give it to some old lady) on your property.
Don't mind us, we're merely young wanderers.
